Since its incorporation in 1980, Bel Aire has continued to experience population growth and new development. Updating the City’s Comprehensive Plan will provide an opportunity to review changing community conditions and establish a visioning tool and action plan for meeting the community’s long-term development goals.
The Comprehensive Plan is a community-driven document that sets a framework for future development in Bel Aire. The plan addresses topics such as land use, infrastructure, transportation, economic development, and cultural resources and serves as a decision-making tool for City leaders. Ongoing monitoring and periodic updates of the plan allow the City to adapt to evolving community needs and other changes at the local level. Bel Aire’s current Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 2014 and was last updated in 2018.
This process will build on existing plans and policies to create an action plan for the community as it achieves its physical, social, and economic objectives. The plan will be comprised of an updated community profile, growth assessment, updated future land use scenario, and a decision-making framework for community growth.
Public Participation will be an essential component of the plan update process, and the City will look to community members to provide critical input on future land use and development objectives. Residents will be invited to share their vision for the community and should stay tuned as public engagement opportunities are announced.
A webpage with additional information about the plan, process, and timeline is available at www.belaireks.gov/CompPlan and will be updated throughout the process.
