Heads up, Bel Aire: The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will close the 21st Street on and off-ramps, the westbound K-96 to northbound I-135 ramp, and the northbound I-135 on-ramp at 29th Street starting at 5:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28. All the closures are necessary to open the new ramp connecting westbound K-96 to northbound I-135 and are not related to the recent train derailment. The existing K-96/I-135 ramp will be permanently closed after this weekend.

The new northbound I-135 ramp and the 29th Street ramp are scheduled to open by 6 a.m. Monday, March 30. For more information, visit bit.ly/I-135_March28_Closure.

The 53rd Street Multi-Use Path Project was initially scheduled to begin today, as noted in the latest “Mayor’s Corner.” However, final preparations have required a slight adjustment to the schedule. Work is expected to begin soon, and a confirmed start date will be shared once finalized.

Construction for the new playground at the Bel Aire Recreation Center began yesterday, February 2, with the removal of the old play structure. Weather permitting, this project is expected to be complete and ready for the community to enjoy in the next few weeks!
