Posted on: March 29, 2021[ARCHIVED] 2021 Backflow Information

Backflow prevention is key to maintaining a clean water system for the community and a healthier lifestyle for your family. Recently, City Council made some changes to the requirements regarding backflows within the City of Bel Aire:
- The rebuild requirement has changed. Previously, a rebuild was required every 5 years. Now, a rebuild is required when the system fails.
- Systems are now required to be tested on even years only. Next year, all systems will be required to turn in their testing reports to City Hall by June 1st
- Irrigation systems not in use can be removed from the water system by disconnection and the installation of a permanent cap, per City specifications. Systems thus removed need to be reported to the City for inspection and filing. Once the system has been disconnected and inspected, the testing requirement will be waived for future years. Homeowners may disconnect their systems themselves provided they follow City Standards. Contact City Hall to find out more about standards and material requirements for disconnecting your irrigation system.
